Yes, still lifes are still being made in the 21st century! Every week Kuitwaard produces one with delicate strokes of paint: each time an object in a box bathed in the same milky light, and always measuring 20x28 cm. Kuitwaard works alla prima (wet-on-wet), from observation, without prior sketches,
...photographs, or optical aids. In this way he continually trains himself to see sharper as well as paint better. In the meantime, Kuitwaard has made hundreds of white box paintings.
