About us

Museum MORE houses a famous collection, owned by Hans Melchers, containing works by leading Dutch realist artists of the past 100 years. The collection is a significant part of Dutch national cultural heritage. MORE has prime pieces by Carel Willink, Jan Mankes, Pyke Koch and Charley Toorop. Their body of work is related to that of other artists who mix fiction and reality, amongst those Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Paul Delvaux, Edward Hopper, George Tooker, Alexander Kanoldt, Otto Dix and George Grosz.

Next to its own collection, Museum MORE showcases temporary exhibitions highlighting national and international figurative art.

On display at Museum MORE from 20 January – 12 May 2019.

They are probably the best kept secret of Switzerland: the Barraud brothers. Four brothers in art. Four very talented painters within one family. A lucky four-leaf clover? A near-miracle? Perhaps. Museum MORE wants to show that there is much more quality and variation in modern Swiss art than the usual suspects such as Giacometti and Hodler. The Barrauds are worth to be discovered outside Switzerland, because their paintings are important representatives of European realism from the 1920s and 1930s. For the first time, people outside of Switzerland can become acquainted with the Barrauds and dozens of their impressive figure pieces, silent still lifes and penetrating portraits, often with an enigmatic twist.
