Herman Gordijn

Agnes, 1976

Confrontationally nude – there is no greater physical transformation than this highly pregnant state in which the celebrated artist Herman Gordijn portrayed his friend Agnes nonchalantly holding a cigar in her left hand. Some black cats dilly-dally around, one showing us its scrotum. The curtain dir ... ects our gaze to the classic, central perspective with the vanishing point on the twisted right hip. The refined light falls in from behind. We look up slightly to that carnal primal power wearing block heels. Amorphous brown organs shimmer in the opened closet at the right.
