Man in a Bath, 1988

In a warm bath, you feel yourself unwinding and stepping out of your body. You doze off, as in this panel, #99 of Westerik’s numbered oeuvre. The averted head of the man slumbering while soaking makes him vulnerable. Did Westerik use this theme to refer to David’s classic painting Marat’s Death (whi ... le bathing) (1793)? However, Marat’s head is sunk towards the viewer because he has been stabbed to death. You had better get out of your bath soon, the water is getting cold.
