Fer Hakkaart

Children at a Crosswalk, 1973 - 1974

The physical decay of the elderly. The flaky behaviour of adolescents or teenagers. Hakkaart paints all of it with equal relish. On a street corner, a boy and a girl lie on perfectly painted sidewalk tiles and curbs. Weird. Hakkaart depicted both children with expressionless faces and their bodies l ... ook like rag dolls. By lowering the perspective at the crosswalk, the viewer is forced to look down on the curious scene even more.
