Ger Gerrits

Poor Catch, 1933

Ger Gerrits had little time for the moderation of his fellow painters. Make your choice, and stick with it! So it is hardly surprising that he eventually opted to paint in a cheerful, whirly, lyrical abstraction. But that is certainly not the case in this earlier work. Two breams appear to be the by ... -catch alongside the four elaborately painted ovals of the fyke net. The net lays playfully on a diagonal board. The transverse float, in the bottom left, adds another element to the geometric composition. Long-term loan from the Cultural Heritage Agency.
