Lotta de Beus

Truth or Dare, 2008

Poor image quality in photography and film inspired Lotta de Beus to make her oil paintings. She based this abstract-looking image on a ‘failed’ colour photograph or a scene shot with Super 8 cine film. Still film images vibrate and become blurred. Remarkably, via this detour De Beus achieves the co ... ntrasts of light and dark associated with the 17th-century French ‘painter of candlelight’ Georges de la Tour. And the mysterious title? That refers to an American bluff game. Text: Chris Reinewald From: Museum MORE: 100 jaar realisme, 2020, Gorssel
