Philip Akkerman

Self-Portrait 1996 no. 29, 1996

Nearly half of the enormous series of self-portraits that Philip Akkerman (1957) has made – almost exclusively – since 1981, are painted. He explores different painting techniques, here using a realistic-expressive style in oils on panel. The works by Akkerman in the Museum MORE collection reveal ... that the artist stayed true to his coiffure, with characteristic side parting and quiff , for a good while. Akkerman’s works can now be found at a number of Dutch museums, as well as abroad. Text: Renate Ketelaars, guide and museum host
