Village Swimming Pool I, 1953

Overcast, sultry. A typical Dutch summer. Somewhere between Utrecht and Jutphaas. Shouts and splashes. And then a curled up figure shoots into the air, above the fence and trees. To the right, we can just about make out two legs sticking up. In this mischievous painting (of which there are two versi ... ons), Pyke Koch captures a swimmer’s movements. For evermore. Delicately painted with matt brick red as the only colour highlight. The swimming pool is no more. Text: Chris Reinewald From: Museum MORE: 100 jaar realisme, 2020, Gorssel
